DescriptionHouse Kundarak houses the Vault of Night, which is where the Dragon Raid takes place. It is also home to several mid level quests, one of which is called The Forgotten Caverns. If you're working to increase your House Kundarak favor, it's always good to start with fun and easy quest. Most quests in House Kundarak are bestowed by NPCs inside the Ever Full Flagon. For Forgotten Cavers, speak with Thurd Steelhand and he will give you the quest. The caverns, as the story goes, have been avoided by many adventurers after the cave-in that killed a raiding party. It's quite a scary story, but being an adventurer, you shouldn't be discouraged at all. In fact, it should be a challege for your levels 4 to 6 characters.

PREPARATION

Inside the caverns are the following creatures: Trolls, Troll Shamans, Troll Chieftain, Greater Ice Mephits, Huge Ochre Jelly, and Earth Elementals. Make sure you bring flaming weapons for the Ice Mephits and a Muckbane for the oozes. You will also need Cold Resists for the first ice mephit encounter. Non-melee types can use the ever-reliable Magic Missile and Scorching Ray (or Fireball). As for Crowd Control, Hypnotism and Hypnotic Pattern will work out just fine. Web is also effective in slowing down the Trolls and Elementals. Another spell that can save you big time is Glitterdust. This blinds the Trolls and Elementals, causing them to attack without actually seeing you, and that just means little to no damage on you.

WALKTHROUGH

The quest entrance is just outside the Ever Full Flagon, if you go down the elevated area to the right. Upon entering, you will find yourself standing in a dimly lit hallway with a wooden door at the end. Your initial objective is to search for an entrance into the caverns. Beind the wooden door is a room filled with fogs. There seems to be no other way out of it except the door you just entered in. Whatever you do, don't go into the middle of the room as the floor collapses. What you need to do is walk slowly until you are between the two pillars. once you do, there will be Greater Ice Mephits (CR: 5) that will spawn. There will be four of them but they will attack in two's. Once you defeat them all, you can run to the side of the room to get to the first chest across the room. By this time, the floor would have collapsed. Make sure you get your loot before dropping down the huge crack.

You will be dropping down a pool of water, but you don't need underwater action item for it. It's just a short swim to get you to dry land. As you swim a little bit further, you will see a Troll (CR: 4) that will come towards you. Since you are in the water, you won't be able to hit or attack the Troll. What you need to do is to jump out of the water and bring the Troll to dry land and start killing it. Casters can also do some damage with offensive spells mentioned above.

After the water area, turn right and head south. You will find another Troll guarding a small chest. This chest contains an Iron Key that will open the locked door just on the other side. Hold off opening the locked door for now and head east the south and you will find a named Troll Moldfang CR: 6. He will be protected by a couple more trolls. Again, you have to fight them on dry land. After killing Modlfang, you can loot the chest then head back to the locked steel door.

Upon entering, you will immediately sense an Ochre Jelly (CR: 4). Bring out those muckbanes to kill the oozes. Continue to head north then make a left turn. You will then find an intersection. There will be one lever on the left side and another on the right side. There will Large Earth Elementals guarding this levers, so prepare to fight them and hopefully you have high saves for their Earthgrab. Each Lever has a marking on top.

If you pull both levers, same rune markings on the wall on to the west will light up and will open a passage to an underground storehouse filled with Trolls. Kill the trolls lurking behind crates. Make sure to kill the Troll Shaman first as their spells deal a lot of damage if you don't save against them. After you kill them, head to your right and you will find a locked door which can be smashed by a tank in the party. A rogue can also unlock it. Behind the door is the only shrine in the quest. Shrine up before the last fight.

After shrining, go up the ramp and set up Crowd Control and let a tank pull all the trolls in the large room up ahead. The Troll Chieftain is being protected by four other Trolls. Once the trolls are slowed down, beat them up and kill them to finish the quest. A chest awaits you. Finish out and get your end reward from Thurd Steelhand.

This dungeon is populated by trolls, elementals and slimes. Your objective is to kill all of the trolls and to explore the dungeon.

This will give you a decent XP as well as favor, not to mention level-appropriate items.

When playing on solo there is an extra shrine at marker #2. Fast door as well if you are desperate enough to sneak to it.
