| Name | Newbie Series: Creating a Human Barbarian |
| Category | Class |
This is the eighth character build in Skryer's "DDO Newbie Series". This guide aims to help new players enjoy the game by building their 28-pt build toons without the headache. You won't have to worry about messing up your stats and skill points. The builds featured in the series are not created to be the uber toons in the game. Save such builds when you get your 1750 favor and unlock your 32-pt builds. The main point of this guide is to help you create a character based on the class of your choice and have tons of fun playing.
Barbarians are all the rage (pun intended) in building a melee character in DDO. If properly built, they can deal massive damage and be able to take some hits as well because of their high hitpoints. The downside is that their Armor Class is a bit in the low side. The main reason is that they cannot wear or use heavy armor and heavy shields. They can only wear medium armor so they don't get maximum AC. This can be remedied by using a one handed weapon and a shield, but everyone knows that a Barbarian rarely uses a shield. They are far more effective with two-handed weapon fighting and as such, they do more damage than most tanks. The Barbarian's ability to rage gives him increased Strength and Constitution for a short time. This translates to very high hitpoints and even higher damage bonus. Another unique attribute of a Barbarian is the base movement speed. They have higher base compared to any other class in the game. Even without a striding boots, they can run relatively faster than anyone.
Dwarven Barbarian is quite the cookie cutter build, but if you are starting on a 28-pt build, you might want to create a Human Barbarian because humans have an extra feat at first level. In addition to that, they also get 4 extra skill points at first level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level. The extra skill points may come in handy if you are considering multi-classing. The extra feat, on the other hand, is something that will help you become even more capable of doing more damage. There's so many feats out there and getting an extra feat is definitely very helpful in making your 28-pt build at par with even the 32-pt builds. You can always make a dwarven version when you unlock your 1750 favor. But even then, your Human Barbarian will still be enjoyable to play.
As Barbarians are main combatants in the game, you will need to spread points between two main attributes: Strength and Constitution. Strength is very important in combat because it increases the chance of you scoring a hit in every attack. It also determines the amount of damage each hit is worth. Damage numbers is everything to the Barbarian, so you will want to max out your Strength. Constitution, on the other hand, gives you more hitpoints. A highe constitution score also lets a Barbarian rage longer. Having a lot of hitpoints help when you are dishing out some damage and the enemy is hitting you back with as much damage. It will help you stay alive longer during prolong battles. As for Dexterity, it is actually useful if you are wearing a light armor. It affects your Armor Class and Reflex Saves. Any attempts to increase AC is good in the Barbarians book. They do need it but can do without much of it.

Notes:
1. Upon character creation, the extra feat can be used. Select Two-Handed Fighting feat and pair it up with Power Attack. You can't go wrong on this combination.
2. Choosing Cleave as feat is something that not many players are keen on doing. When this ability is activated, a barbarian can attack one or more enemies in an arc. With Two-handed fighting feat already in place, you can deal great damage even with your glancing blows.
3. The Barbarian enhancements are quite straightforward and you just need to invest points on those that will give you longer rage and more hitpoints. This includes Toughness and Constitution. Enhancing the Power Attack feat is also a must if you want your damage numbers to increase as you get to higher levels.
4. Armor Class is something that Barbarians don't have a lot of. But with items and a little tweaking using buffs, you can get a decent AC score even without carrying a shield.
Armor Class
10: +5 Medium Armor (Breastplate)
03: Dexterity bonus from 12 base and +4 item)
04: Iron Menecles from Delera's quest chain
02: Ring of Balance (from Invaders token turn in)
29: Total with Two-handed Fighting (Can get up to 34+ with shield)
5.Rage can give out +10 to damage. Full raged with +6 Strength item and +4 for level increase, you can get 38 Strength.
6. Damage numbers will be between 24 to 47 with Power Attack and damage boost from enhancements.
7. The point of Human Versatility is to give boosts to skills when a situation calls for it. It's a secret weapon by a Human Barbarian when the stakes are up and party members need some support. You can easily take the aggro away from them.
8. Barbarians deal massive damage but may have a tough time absorbing the damage because of a low AC. It can be remedied by getting AC-enhancing weapons and items. But really, the main goal is to kill all enemies before they get the chance to slaughter the party.
