| Name | Garl's Tomb Part 1: THe Troglodytes' Get |
| Category | Quest |
Three Barrel Cove is an adventure area accessed through House Deneith. To get there, you have to talk Evi Joss, who will then teleport you to The Salty Wench Tavern. You can explore the area but will find yourself killing pirates and ogres for little XP. You can smash barrels and crates to get potions and gold. It's also the start off point to get to four main quests - Guard Duty (level 5), The Troglodyte's Get (Level 6), Old Grey Garl (Level 7), and The Scoundrel's Run (Level 7). These are mid-level quests that give out decent XP.
There is a 2-part quest that takes place in Garl's Tomb. Part one is The Troglodytes Get and part two is Old Grey Garl. You must first talk to Red Tom. Upon exiting the Salty Wench Tavern, head straight then turn right. Upon seeing the halfling who gives the Scoundrel's Run quest, turn left and you'd find Red Tom. Be alert as a group of thugs and pirates will come attacking you as you speak to Red Tom. You then have to go to the cave hidden by waterfalls. This is the entrance to the quest.
THE TROGLODYTES' GET (PART 1)
Background
Old Garl was known to be a pirate who made use of the ruins in the Three Barrel Cove as a hiding place for himself and his men. It now serves as his tomb. A troglodyte chieftain named Zakh has moved into the tomb together with his minions of troglodytes. Pirates in the area have long been troubled by this, especially Red Tom who loots treasures from the tomb. He and his fellow pirates were attacked by a bunch of troglodytes while trying to loot said tomb. This is where you come into the picture. Red Tom will ask you to kill all the troglodytes in the tomb. To make sure they don't return, you have to destroy 25 troglodyte eggs scattered all over the tomb.
Preparation
Before reaching the cave, you will be attacked by four or five troglodytes guarding the cave entrance. They will cast acid and throw spears at you. There's really no need to buff at this time, just make sure the tanks take them down as quickly as possible and the squishies in the party try to steer clear from the fight to save resources.
As the tomb serves as the hiding place for an army of troglodytes, everyone should have acid resist and/or protection on. Shamans cast fireballs and slow spells, so it's also wise to have fire resist. Haste will take care of the slow spells. You will also encounter gargoyles and ochre jellies along the way. Also, there will be poisonous mushrooms in the cave. If you come near it, you will be poisoned and it will cause you to move slowly. Poison immunity items will come in handy, or ask a cleric to cast poison neutralization spell on you.
Walkthrough
Once you enter the cave, you will encounter a bunch of ochre jellies. Bring out your Muckbanes to kill them quickly. Along this hallway, you will also find some poisonous mushrooms. It's quite hard to avoid them but if you have a poison immunity item on, it should not be a problem. If you head further along the hallway, you will find the first batch of Troglodytes, which includes Shamans. Take down the shamans first as they can be dangeorous with the spells they cast.
Upon reaching the end of the hallway, turn left and you will find a stone bridge leading to an open cave. At the bottom of the bridge is a pool and a waterfall. Here you will find the second batch of troglodytes that will not think twice about casting fireballs and slow spells. Pay close attention to witch doctors. The troglodytes are positioned on the left and right ledges, as well as down the pool and near the cave entrance. One of the best ways to deal with this is to use crowd control (fog, glitterdust, etc.) and then have the tanks attack while other party members use ranged attacks them. It can get really ugly if you can't dodge their fireballs and you can't make a save on the slow spell. Haste is a must as well as fire resistance.
After defeating the witch doctors, don't jump down just yet. The cave houses a chest and several gargoyles. The gargoyles will only start attacking if you pop the chest. So, before you do so, make sure you have crowd control in place. Also, a gate will come down on the cave entrance once you open the chest so there is no way out for the party members. The gate will only open once every single gargoyle is killed. Once you get your loot, jump down to the water area. Behind the waterfall is where you need to be. There will be an ambush led by troglodyte casters. There are two levers on each side that will open the stone door. Activate the levers to enter the area.
You will now find yourself in a dark hallway. You will be greeted by a witch doctor and several ochre jellies. If you turn right, you will find a locked gate and behind it is a shrine. A rogue can lock pick it or have a caster knock it. It's alright to use this shrine as there will be another shrine before the end fight. To the left is another door that can be opened by using the lever.
Entering the door, you will find a couple of troglodyte witch doctors, one on the right side and one on the left. They constantly cast slow and fireball spells. The only way to melee them is to climb the stairs where more Troglodytes will spawn. So, the best way to kill these two casters is to web them and range them (either by ranged weapon or spells). Naturally, the person who climbs the stairs will get major aggro, so make sure that he or she gets protection and the Cleric should be watching out for the health bar. There are also two levers near the two witch doctors. Activate these levers to gain access to another hallway to the right filled with more troglodytes. The stench will really slow you down so make sure you don't give the trogs lots of time to cast them. Web works wonders in this quest. Always remember to kill the casters first. There is a shrine waiting on the other end of the hallway. Use it if you need to.
At the end of the hall you will find two bridges. Under these bridges are several platforms that aren't link together. Jumping from one platform to another may cause you to fall down. It's ok to fall down though as some of the eggs you need to destroy can be found down there. But what you should do first is to activate the two levers on the right and left side. You need to have a good jump and haste to make sure you get to the levers without falling down. If you fall, you can always come back using the stairs on both sides, but prepare for the attacks of troglodytes that will spawn in that area.
From the platform, you can see the eggs as well as several troglodytes, including their Chief Zaokh. Kill him for extra XP. You can range them, but you can feather fall down and melee them for quicker kill. You'll also find a door with three runes. If you've pulled the first two levers up top, 2 runes should light up. The third lever can be found near the area where the dead body of Chieftain Zaokh lies. This should light up the third rune and will grant you access to another hallway. At the end will be a shrine. To the right is the door that leads to the final room. Before you reach the shrine, you will be ambushed by ochre jellies, so don't let your guard down.
In the final room, you will find a bridge that leads to the center area. There is a chest there and several eggs that you need to destroy. Several troglodytes will spawn. There will be a Witch doctor on the left and right ledges. Web them then range them with spells or ranged weapons. You need to take them down fast because they will deal you the most damage and will slow you down considerably while fighting the troglodytes guarding the chest. The best tactic so far is to pull the Troglodytes at the bridge where the witch doctors can't reach the party members. But if you can kill the two witch doctors on each side fast, fighting off the Trogs in the center platform wouldn't be as difficult.
By this time, the remaining eggs in the room would be enough to complete the required 25 eggs you need to destroy. Get your loot and finish out. Head back to Red Tom to advance to Part 2 of the quest chain: Old Grey Garl.
