Dungeons & Dragons Online Depths of Doom Quest Guide

NameDepths of Doom Quest Guide
CategoryQuest
The Depths of Doom is the fourth and final quest in the "Depths" series. As such, it is the hardest among all four quests. In this sewer, you will meet the baddest villain in the series, known as Hammerfist the Mighty. He rules his subjects with an iron hand and he will not think twice of slaying any adventurer who sets foot in his meager realm. Your main objectives are to explore the sewer and slay Hammerfist the Mighty.

As with the other 3 quests, you will have to get the quest from the Hammersmith's Inn. For this particular quest, you will have to speak with Keane D'Deneith. If you're coming from the Depths of Discord, you just need to click on the rope and you will be teleported inside the Depths of Doom sewer. You can also use the street entrance which is on the southwest of the map (or just to the east of the House Deneith Auctioneer, Thalandain d'Deneith).

PREPARATION

In this level 5 quest, there will be different types of creatures that you have to contend with. The tougher ones are the ogres that can lower your health bars into half with just one hit. Other creatures that will you will encounter are as follows:

Skeleton Swordsman
Arcane Skeleton
Ghoul
Skeleton Archer
Wraith
Armored Wight
Wight
Enraged Rust Monster
Large Earth Elemental
Large Fire Elemental
Elf Bandit
Troglodyte
Troglodyte Chieftain
Ogre
Ogre Shaman
Ochre Jelly
Huge Violet Slime
Minotaur Berserker
Minotaur Shaman

It will be wise to have Fire and Acid Resist to protect yourself from the fireballs and Melf's Acid Arrow. Make sure to bring your Muckbanes or any wooden weapons for the oozes and Rust Monster; holy and pure good weapons for the undead; reptillian bane for the Troglodytes; and any damage-dealing weapons for the rest of the creepy bunch.

As for crowd control, Web, Hypnotic Pattern, Hypnotism and Glitterdust work well on most of the creatures. Your cleric can also use Command and Turn Undead. These spells will greatly help in slowing down the charging Minotaurs and Ogres. If you have high enough level casters in the group, then a Firewall will be the best crowd control spell.

There are a couple of blade traps in this quest. They are fairly easy to dodge, but if you have a rogue in the party, it's best to have those traps disabled for added XP.

WALKTHROUGH

Upon setting foot in the sewer, you will have the option to enter either the east or west door. Either way you choose, you will end up in a hallway leading further north and onto the final room. If you choose the west door, you can still go back the way you came in and get to the east door if you wish to get conquest and ransack. But if you just want a quick run, just choose one direction and you're all set.

If you head on to the west, be prepared to fight several Troglodytes and Ogres. The Trogs are pretty harmless and they go down real fast. As for the Ogres, if you can manage to kill them before they start their multiple attacks, then you'll be able to survive their damaging hits. They do hit pretty hard. In the absence of crowd control, you might want to bring them to a spot where they can be surrounded. As you continue forward, you will encounter an Ochre Jelly and a Huge Violet Slime. It's time to use your Muckbanes. Fire spells work well on these oozes. As you make the turn, you will see a Large Earth Elemental running towards you. Do not charge ahead as there is a huge blade trap that goes off once you get near the area going down the ramp with flowing water. Let the Earth Elemental come to you.

If you head on to east path, you will encounter a bunch of undead including Wraiths that show up when the path bends to the left, so make sure you have Ghost Touch weapons ready. If you head a little bit north, you will encounter three Enraged Rust Monsters by the door. It's always best to fight them through doorways so they don't go running around.. By the end of the hall, you will meet a Large Earth Elemental just before you get to the water area that slopes downward. If you step foot on the water, you will be carried down by the current and you will have to make you way back up to fight the Earth Elemental. Don't fight the creature in the water because you don't have much control if you're in water.

After you go around the hallways, you will get to a room up north. There will be several barrels and crates just south of this room. There's a curious looking barrel with a red "X" on it. If you break it, a Fire Elemental will spawn and quickly spam your party with Fireballs. So, to save your party from all that unnecessary stress, just don't smash that barrel. Of course, it will be a different story if you're after conquest and ransack. If you feel that you have enough firepower, then go ahead and break the barrel.

Once you enter the room, you will see another ramp with flowing water. At the end are concrete blocks you have to jump over. There is a nasty blade trap ahead but can be easily disabled by a Rogue. The box is on the second concrete block.

If you manage to survive the trap, you will see that there's a locked door with unlit crystals on each side. You will have to find the switches for these. You can either head to the left or to the right. Moving to the right will lead you to a room with a Minotaur Berserker and a Minotaur Shaman. The latter casts a deadly fireball so you might want to kill it first. The switch can be found in one of the alcoves. There is also a collectible at the end of the room; however there is a slash trap before you can get to it. You can disable it for additional XP.

Head back and this time go to the left side. In this room, there's is a possiblity that a named elemental Earthshaker will show up. If he does, then you will get a chest. After you kill him, you can use the shrine just past the door. The second switch can also be found in the center.

Head back to the now open doorway. You will see that the path will split to left and right. Either way you choose, you will still get to the final boss Hammerfist the Mighty. There is also a chance that you will encounter a named ogre Argor Soulbane. But don't go looking for a chest when you defeat him. There will be no chest that will spawn. What you can do here is just bring one ogre to where you are by using range weapons, so you don't have to deal with a handful of them at one time. Hammerfist's cohorts will use bows and brute force. So, better make use of Crowd Control spells such as Web and Hypnotism or Hypnotic Pattern. There will be a total of 4 Ogres in both areas plus Hammerfist. Though they aren't that many, you have to remember that they hit pretty hard. Once you kill Hammerfist, you can loot the chest. Give yourself a pat in the back for finishing all four quests in the series. Don't forget to get your end reward.
