Dungeons & Dragons Online Creating a Halfling Rogue

Edit This Entry

NameCreating a Halfling Rogue
This is the fourth character build in Skryer's "DDO Newbie Series". This guide aims to help new players enjoy the game by building their 28-pt build toons without the headache. You won't have to worry about messing up your stats and skill points. The builds featured in the series are not created to be the uber toons ever. Save such builds when you get you 1750 favor and unlock your 32-pt builds.

Rogues are quite a versatile bunch, but they are primarily the go-to class if there are locks to pick and traps to disable. They have this uncanny ability to detect hidden doors and impending danger. It's always good to have a rogue in the party especially in trap-laden quests. They are also one of the 3 classes that get Evasion as a feat. Evasion lets a rogue make a successful Reflex save to avoid damage from traps and attacks. You suffer no damage instead of half damage.

This basic Rogue build is your typical trap monkey who can also heal using wands and scrolls via the Use Magic Device skill. It is also designed to take advantage of the Dragonmarks for more healing capabilities. As for damage, this build can make use of his high Dexterity in combat by taking the weapon finesse feat. This means he can use light or finesse-able weapons. What makes a rogue special is backstabbing. They do decent damage just by attacking a creature that is currently engaged in battle with someone else. With the right weapon, you can deal massive damage.

Note: It's important to max out Disable Device, Search, Spot, and Use Magical Device skills everytime you level up.

Once you get to level 16 and able to acquire a +2 or +3 tomes, then you can improve your stats. But at 55 Disable Device and 44 Search, you can be a very effective trapsmith. There's a trap in the Gianthold quest called A Cabal For One where you need 60+ on both Disable Device and Search Skills. You just need to be lucky when you roll the DDO virtual die. It's still very possible.
